At 5'1" and 90 pounds, 16-year-old Brenda Spencer was not a particularly intimidating girl. She was freckle-faced with long bright red hair and wore big silver-rimmed glasses. Her classmates described her as, “pretty crummy looking” and a loner since she mostly kept to herself.
Following her parents’ divorce, Brenda lived with her father in a seemingly ordinary one-story suburban home in San Diego. The home was situated across the street from Grover Cleveland Elementary, lattice-style bars covered the windows, just like every other home on the block.
