The Abduction and Survival of Hannah Anderson
James Lee DiMaggio Jr. was born in 1973. His father, James DiMaggio Sr., served in the US Army and his mother lost her fight to cancer when James Jr. was just a small child. James Jr. and his sister Lora overcame the death of their mother together, but it wouldn’t be the first time tragedy struck their family.
In 1988, James Sr. broke up with his girlfriend Therese Dusenberry because he was in love with someone else — her 16-year-old daughter.
James Sr. professed his love to the young girl who was the same age as his own son. He showered her with gifts and asked her to run away with him, promising he could give her a better life. She refused, but James Sr. wasn’t one to take no for an answer.
On July 18, 1989, armed with a sawed-off shotgun and a pair of handcuffs, James Sr. placed a stocking over his head and broke into Therese’s home in El Cajon, California. Therese was not home at the time, but her daughter was, along with her boyfriend.
